Local High School Music Students Performing at Sun Valley Resort for 80th Birthday Celebration
SUN VALLEY, Idaho — Dec. 12, 2016 – Local high school students will be the entertainment stars at River Run Lodge on Wednesday, Dec. 21, thanks to a special collaboration between the Sun Valley Summer Symphony School of Music and Sun Valley Resort. The free event, which will start at 4:00 p.m., is part of Sun Valley Resort’s 80th birthday celebration.
The special 80th birthday event, “Swinging Through the Holidays,” will feature Glenn Miller songs from the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade, along with swing-inspired holiday music. Some of the classic hits being performed are “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, “In the Mood,” and “It Happened in Sun Valley.”
Performers are The B-Tones, Colla Voce, and the Beck Vontver Trio. The School of Music and Blaine County School District work together at Wood River High School to support The B-Tones and Colla Voce. Vontver, a Wood River High student, studies piano with the Sun Valley Summer Symphony School of Music and also has his own jazz trio.
Colla Voce, organized in 2002, is a group of young women whose repertoire ranges from classical to jazz to pop. They practice every morning before school under the direction of Choir Director Max Stimac with assistance from Dorinda Rendahl and R.L. Rowsey, Sun Valley Summer Symphony’s education programs artistic director. Choreographers are Jaymie Stimac and Melodie Mauldin-Taylor.
The B-Tones, a group of 28 basses, baritones and tenors, was formed 11 years ago. Rowsey leads the group as part of the choral program at the school.
The Sun Valley Summer Symphony School of Music, formed in 2001, partners with the Blaine County School District to provide year-round instruction for students ages 9 to 18.
“We have an amazing community of talented performers and programs at the Sun Valley Summer Symphony School of Music and Wood River High School. We are pleased to have the opportunity to have them perform Sun Valley Serenade songs and holiday music for our 80th birthday celebration on December 21,” said Kelli Lusk, Sun Valley Resort’s public relations and communications manager. “We hope this can become an annual community event.”
There will also be a free screening of Sun Valley Serenade at the Sun Valley Opera House at 2:30 p.m. on the same day.
