Developmental Programs

Developmental programs are group classes for intermediate violin, viola, cello, bass, and vocal students. These group lessons prepare students for admission into the Core Program. A nominal registration fee is charged and costume fees may apply for the vocal ensembles.

Violin, Viola, Cello And Bass

This program is for students in grades 4-8 who are currently studying their instrument and are interested in improving their skills while working in small, age appropriate groups with students of similar ability. Regular attendance is expected.

School of Music faculty will advise on the best group lessons for string players. The options are:

Ludwig’s Ensemble

This chamber ensemble for second year elementary string students meets weekly. A perfect ensemble for the young motivated string student who wants to add to their musical experiences. Many of these students have had one year in the Elementary Strings Outreach Program.
$25 fee per semester

Sinfonia Honor Orchestra

Sinfonia Honor Orchestra is for students in grades 6-9 who have been studying their instrument in their school’s orchestra program or privately and are looking for an extra challenge. This program is intended to prepare students for the high school orchestra program or entrance into the School of Music Core Program. Teacher recommendation is required. Contact your school music teacher or the Symphony Education office for more information.

$50 fee per semester

Voice Programs

Melodia – for girls in grades 6-8

Wood River Valley Boys – for boys in grades 6-8

These small vocal ensembles are designed for students who have a special interest in music. They are not intended to replace a student’s participation in their school music program, but rather to augment that work with more individualized attention. Fun, exciting, and educational. No audition required. Contact the education office for more information and rehearsal schedules for these groups.

$50 per semester plus costume fee

Register For The Developmental Programs

  • Students are accepted into the Development Programs year-round
  • Music teacher recommendation required for admittance
  • Registration fee due with application. Vocal students may have an additional costume fee.
  • Core program students participating in a developmental ensemble to fulfill their group class obligation are not required to pay the developmental program registration
